[ when kaeya enters the manor, canopus wrapped around his shoulders, he does expect the hush that falls over the entire house. it's late, and perhaps he lost track of time finishing a few assignments for jean, but that's only natural. everyone else has already gone to bed, which is fine with him, he doesn't want to really be fussed over. as he makes his way up the steps and canopus bounds towards where the master bedroom, he sees it before he can even step fully through the door.
diluc, sprawled in bed wearing one of his shirt, brazenly opened up. there's a ledger, a few books, some writing materials and ink on a lap desk and polaris is sprawled by the small fireplace (this is a master bedroom), looking at kaeya from his place there, his tail thumping softly to the very tune of kaeya's heartbeat, th-thump th-thump th-thump. ]
What a shameless display of such diligence... [ kaeya murmurs, gathering up the books and papers, the ink and pens, shuffling them to the side table and slowly crawling over his dozing body as he looks down at him. polaris merely meets canopus, nose to nose, licking her softly on the crown of her head. meanwhile, kaeya simply slots himself just into diluc's shoulder, thumbing at the fold in the collar of his shirt, the way it parts tantalizingly and reveals diluc's chest in a way he most certainly wouldn't be caught dead beyond this room. his fingers trace small circles against pale, scarred skin, lips cresting to kiss his bared collarbone before he speaks. ]
No better than Canopus when there's a sunny patch on my desk, hm?
[ he really had intended to stay up long enough to greet kaeya, welcome him home, but sleep caught up to him faster than expected. maybe if he had stayed in his study, at his desk or downstairs at the large table by the entrance, he could have stayed up and been there as kaeya walked through the door. his biggest mistake was stealing one of kaeya’s shirts, slipping it on and curling up in bed with his work. that’s where it all went downhill.
the last thing he remembered was adelinde coming to check on him, offering him tea and something to eat. now here he is, slumped against the pillows, hair falling loose from the tie, and reading glasses slipping off his face.
diluc doesn’t even sense kaeya as he enters the room and strides over, not even as he collects the mess and climbs onto the bed. but as the captain draws close he stirs, shifting as his skin is caressed and letting out a soft whine when lips hover close to his collarbone. ]
mm…Kae?
[ reaching up to rub at one of his eyes, the other cracking open to squint at the man above him. with a small yawn he reaches up to wrap his arms around kaeya and drag him down, nuzzling the top his head with his cheek. quietly: ]
Welcome home…
Edited (I LOOKED AWAY AND MY FINGER HIT COMMENT BY ITSELF CKSKXKSKXK) 2021-12-04 03:29 (UTC)
My own little sunbeam right here to greet me even in the dead of night.
[ kaeya allows himself to be dragged down, nuzzling instantly into the warmth of diluc's chest and breathing him in—sleep and ink, fire and the scents of the winery. he indulges himself a moment, closed eyes and dragging his nose up against his collarbone, lips skimming faint kisses against his skin from time to time. ]
You missed me, I see...
[ kaeya's intentions are less than innocent, but he's kind to a sleepy 'luc, snuggling in like a coy cat, kicking off his boots and climbing up the rest of the way so he can also be quite comfortable in this nest diluc has made for himself. a fool, really, this is no way to get paperwork done—not in such a decadent bed. he flops between diluc's thighs and wraps his arms around him, nosing in against his neck. ]
[ diluc hums softly as kaeya settles, his eyes fluttering closed again. he likely hasn’t been asleep for more than an hour, usually pretty good at staying up til kaeya comes home, so his state of mind is very hazy in this moment. any faint touch from the other is met with a small noise of contentment, diluc pressing a sleepy kiss to the top of kaeya’s head. ]
Mhmm…you’re late…
[ as kaeya shifts and moves his arms fall loose, eyes peeking open to watch and a pout on his face. the very brief loss of contact is enough to make him frown, but that immediately melts away once kaeya is back in his arms and even closer than before. diluc sighs, satisfied, and wraps his arms back around the captain, fingers raking lightly through dark blue hair. ]
Hmm…so it is. [ there’s a small smile on his face as kaeya points the shirt out, a quiet chuckle coming with it. ] It’s comfortable and…smells like you…
[ is that sleep luc talking or completely coherent luc talking? who’s to say! ]
[ he laughs, recognizing it at something he'd tossed off haphazardly. he was going to wear it today but couldn't find it—turns out it's been put to better use so he can't say he's disappointed. he feels the fingers raking through his hair and sighs, tilting his head upwards to kiss softly at his jawline, to crawl a little further up and press his weight against him that much more.
the bed is plush, wonderfully soft, and maybe it's the rough day talking, but kaeya could fall asleep right here in this moment.
thankfully, diluc is a wonderful stimulant in all sorts of ways, the kind that makes kaeya's heart rate ratchet up from 0 to 60 out of sheer affection. he presses forward, nuzzling just beneath his chin. ]
Maybe I should start stealing more of your things if you're going to become such a thief.
[ the weight of the captain on top of him, paired with the soft kisses and caresses could easily lull him back to sleep. having kaeya home and in his arms is exactly what he needs.
he continues to pet his hair, an amused hum in response to that.]
Well perhaps if you cleaned up after yourself and didn't leave such things laying around.
[ he laughs, because guilty as charged, he will allow this slander to happen as long as diluc keeps petting him. his eyes lull shut just until the soft tug to his hair, and he turns his head up. readjusting, his tucks an arm under diluc's head and presses their foreheads together. ]
Far be it from me to step over the holiest of laws, "finders keepers."
[ he shifts to press a kiss to his cheek, hovering over him. ]
Guess I'll never see that shirt again.
But then... wouldn't it be fair to say that I found you just now?
[ a sly grin ] Which begs the question—should I get to keep you?
[ with his eyes closed, he lets out a small chuckle. this exchange is rather childish but he's also half asleep and rather comfortable in their current position. nuzzling their foreheads together, just before kaeya shifts again.
his eyes open to stare up at the captain.]
Hmm...you do have a point. [ he looks like he's thinking it over, taking actual time and effort to do so. before smiling back at him. ]
I don't see why not, after all [ reaches to loop his arms around kaeya's neck, pulling him down. ] you have worked very hard. I dare say you have earned it.
[ and down he goes. kaeya smiles and breathes in deeply, taking in every part of diluc that's pressed up against him, his sleepy warmth radiating off of his skin. tenderly, his hand moves upwards to push a bit of diluc's hair back behind his ear, thumb grazing his cheek. ]
Well if the master of the house is saying that it's alright, then...
[ his hands travel downwards, holding fast onto his waist as he leans further in with the arms around his neck. he presses a kiss to his mouth, slow and smooth, wanting to luxuriate in the feeling of him, fresh from sleep and so relaxed, as he ought to be. ]
[ stepping through the window was simple enough and even in they did so side by side or hand in hand, they didn't stay that way once through. the panic is immediate.
diluc finds himself right back where he started, just past springvale, not too much farther til he reaches the winery. except this time canopus is beside him and she's already whipped around to bolt back in the direction of windrise. diluc isn't far behind, running as fast as his legs will take him and hoping he doesn't trip along the way.
he has to get back to kaeya. he has to see him, make sure he's alright, make sure polaris is alright. the knowledge of wounds being fully healed hasn't registered yet, as the adrenaline pumps faster and faster, the harder he runs. and as he comes around the corner, the giant tree of windrise in the distance, he shouts and comes to a stop right in front of... ]
Kaeya!
[ canopus is already jumping onto polaris when diluc takes off again and nearly leaps at kaeya, wrapping his arms tight around him. even if their separation had been brief, it was the fear of not knowing what would be waiting for them once they came back, that scared him the most. but kaeya is here, polaris is here...they're all here and they're all alive. they're home. ]
[ home is a funny concept for kaeya. funny in that he doesn't have a home. he's made mondstadt that, perhaps but in truth, kaeya knows he doesn't belong here despite what all of the people say, how they tell him that they enjoy his company, that he's loved. it's still not quite enough to undo the burden pushed onto his shoulders as a child, the burden that absolutely none of them are wiser to save diluc.
when he steps through the window with diluc's hand in his it's a blink and he's here. he's here at windrise facing the direction of mondstadt's city proper, but at his side polaris is stood, fur ruffling in the wind from where he's pressed close and looking up as if asking what to do now.
kaeya doesn't get much time to think. instead, they're both barreled over, polaris by a ginger blur and kaeya by diluc's arms suddenly wrapped around him so tightly that...
he buckles. ]
So it wasn't a dream, [ he whispers, fingers clutching tight, instinctive. the wound of his left eye is healed over, but the right is instinctively shut now that he has diluc around him. it's too used to hiding that kaeya is too anxious about being out here in the open, the strange thing so exposed and different. he holds fast, drawing hands down diluc's back and holding him tighter, digging fingers into his coat. ] I'm here, [ he reassures. ] You're here... we made it back...
[ his voice trails and for once, kaeya falls into full silence, pushing his face into diluc's neck. ] I'm sure you'll have a warm welcome waiting for you back at the manor.
[ laying in each others arms, under the tree of windrise, most would consider this romantic and diluc might even too, but under different circumstances.
he holds tight to kaeya, clinging to him with a fear that he may disappear in his arms. it wasn't a dream, no...but it was a nightmare. and they both survived. they both made it back.
diluc lets the silence fill the air, his grip loosening to a gentle hold and his shoulders untensing with each breath they both take. canopus doing the same, where she lay on top of polaris.
oh right...the manor. ] Kaeya.
[ he pulls back, looking the other in the eye, a small frown on his face. ]
You're coming home, with me. [ sighs ] I'll figure it out, I'm sure everyone would be happy to see you, anyways. And your room is still as you left it...though there is mine, as well.
[ the thought of separating again, after everything that has happened, makes diluc want to scream. but he also understands there's matters that have been left unfinished, especially on kaeya's end. ]
Edited (i am powerful, once again) 2022-04-22 08:42 (UTC)
Is Master Diluc saying that he's offering his bed to me? A lowly Cavalry Captain?
[ kaeya grins just a bit from where he's looking diluc in the eye. he can feel that his wounds no longer sting, but the gaping hole where his eye used to be is... most definitely still there. he's just no longer in any danger. he slips his hands up to gently hold diluc's face as he presses their foreheads together. ]
Then who am I not to accept?
[ he presses their cheeks (face!) together and pulls back enough so diluc can see that he is smiling softly. ]
I do want to come home with you... if that'd be okay. I want to... live with you. I want us to be us again...
[ this is usually the part where diluc rolls his eyes and scoffs at kaeya's smart mouth comments, but he knows there is no teasing energy behind it, not like usual. they just survived something severally traumatic after all...
he places his hands over kaeya's eyes closing briefly as their foreheads meet, only to open again and meet a single glowing one. and to see one of the softest smiles the captain has ever worn.]
Then it's settled. [ he smiles back, moving to sit up and pull kaeya up with him.
reaching a hand out to softly brush the other man's cheek (face!). ]
I would love nothing more, than to be us again, truly.
